Dear M-1 Student:
Thank you for requesting information on massage training at the Maui Academy of the Healing Arts.

Level I begins with a 10 hour Introduction to Massage Class followed by Anatomy, Physiology, and Swedish-Esalen Massage Instruction. Beginning programs are offered twice a year:
Spring: Begins late March; classes on Mon/Wed evenings and Saturday mornings or Monday afternoons. (depending on class size)
Fall: Begins late August; classes on Tues/Thurs evenings and Saturday afternoons or Tuesday afternoons. (depending on class size)

The 10 hour Introductory course provides an overview of the business aspects of being a massage therapist, learning strategies, biomechanics of bodywork, and demonstration of the basic Eastern, Western, and Hawaiian styles of massage therapies that are taught throughout the course. The full 600-hour certificate course takes approximately one year to complete. Taking courses offered in addition to the regular schedule may accelerate completion. Upon completion of the certificate program you will be qualified to apply to take the Hawaii State Licensing Exam, which is offered four times a year.

Please note that foreign students are only allowed to take the Hawaii licensing exam if they are a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national or an alien authorized to work within the United States. For further information, contact the Board of Massage on Oahu at (808) 586-2699 or the Immigration Office.

To assure quality of instruction, a maximum of 28 students are accepted for each Level I program. Since applications are considered in the order in which they are received it is to your advantage to complete the application process as soon as possible. You will be considered according to the date the application and interview process is completed.

Completion of the Application Form and Student Financial Agreement, and an interview with Principal John Sanderson must be completed before a Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status (Form I-20, M-1) can be mailed to you.
